American Flag Project
Flags Welcoming the Community
Nassau Grove proudly displays the American Flag, the Delaware State Flag, and the official city of Lewes flag at the entrance to our community. These flags warmly welcome both residents and visitors.
Patriotic Celebrations Throughout the Year
The flagpole patio serves as the central location for Nassau Grove’s Patriotic Celebrations throughout the year. On Memorial Day, the community honors the lives lost while serving in the U.S. Military. Prior to the Fourth of July, volunteers place small American Flags along the community entrance, the flagpole, and in front of every home, celebrating America’s birth. The festivities include a parade featuring decorated cars, bicycles, wagons, and walkers, all adorned in the patriotic colors of red, white, and blue. Children especially enjoy riding in the Lewes Company #82 fire truck. Residents gather at the Clubhouse patio to enjoy grilled hot dogs and hamburgers. On November 11th, Veterans Day, the community comes together again to recognize those who have served in the U.S. military. The celebration includes singing the anthems of each branch of service, reading aloud the names of community members who have served, and raising the flags in their honor.
Flag Care and Community Involvement
Nassau Grove’s flags are expertly cared for year-round by Pete Stout, a dedicated Nassau Grove volunteer and U.S. Navy veteran. If you have ever wondered why a flag is flying at half-staff, you can click here and select your state to find the reason.
