Common Grounds Group Duties Defined

Each day, volunteers from the Common Grounds Group dedicate their time and expertise to painting, sanding, and repairing the common elements throughout Nassau Grove. Their commitment ensures that these areas are well-maintained. The volunteers have specialized skills and experience, enabling them to make necessary repairs, collaborate with vendors, and oversee the quality of work.

Clubhouse Electrical/Mechanical/Sound System: John Butler and Sam Chason assist with electrical and mechanical issues in the clubhouse. They also help with the setup and maintenance of the sound system and television.

Irrigation: Dave Elwood manages the irrigation system’s programming for optimal performance. Arch Manning and Don Wentzel work closely with residents to identify and repair issues. The entire team collaborates with Sullivan’s Irrigation technicians, closely monitoring their work to ensure quality.

Landscaping: Greg Raschdorf and Tom Stirparo partner with Sullivan’s Landscaping Division to ensure landscaping work is completed to the standards required by Nassau Grove.

Ponds & Waterfalls: Jim Hurley and Greg Raschdorf oversee Nassau Grove’s three ponds, including the wetland pond. They work with Envirotech to maintain water quality using algaecides, herbicides, and vegetation management. To deter geese from landing, Envirotech installs a microfilament grid and provides annual winterization services.

Pool Monitoring: From Memorial Day to Labor Day, Cannon Pools, LLC operates on site three days a week, cleaning the pool and checking the chemical and saltwater balance. They also maintain the pool filters, pumps, and associated piping, as well as supply and maintain the chlorine tank. On off days, volunteer Tom Stirparo checks the water level in both the main and kiddie pools, adds water as needed, inspects the pump, filters, and piping in the pump house, and removes debris from the pool apron each morning.

Pool Operations & Maintenance: Greg Raschdorf and Tom Stirparo are responsible for monitoring the pool equipment and contacting the pool contractor for assistance when corrections are required. The Common Grounds Group collectively manages the pool furniture and umbrellas.

Trees: Volunteer Wayne Von Stetten monitors the community’s treescape. He works closely with Arbor Care and Complete Tree to evaluate the condition of trees and plans for replacement, pruning, or fertilization as needed. Wayne follows the “Right Tree, Right Place” philosophy to ensure a healthy and sustainable treescape for the future.
